Breakaway is a startup accelerator designed for companies working on an MVP in the sports data industry. When we first started development of SportWise we knew we needed a reliable sports data API, but most of the official data source options were too expensive. As a pre-revenue startup, every dollar counted and we needed to be thoughtful about where we were investing.

After a lot of research, we found Reliant Stats, an unofficial sports data provider that met our needs and offered an affordable product. Our development of SportWise continued using Reliant Stats as a source, but as Covid put a halt to sporting events across the world, the owners of Reliant Stats determined it wasn’t viable to continue their business and notified customers they’d be terminating the service.

At this point, we began talks with the Reliant Stats team and decided to acquire their technology and continue servicing their customers. DataFeeds by Rolling Insights was launched, and we became a sports data provider as well as an analytics startup.

We recognized there are startups just like us growing around the world as legalized sports gambling takes hold across North America, and companies like ours would need a high-performance sports data API developed them in mind and priced with growth in mind.

So we started offering a 90% discount on DataFeeds while companies were in their first year of development. But after a few conversations with potential customers, we realized something was missing - Access to affordable data was important but so was support and community.
