NFL Week 6 Thursday Night Football Preview

Jets Fire HC Robert Saleh❗

The New York Jets sent waves through social media earlier this week when they fired HC Robert Saleh seemingly out of nowhere. Much has been talked about since the move, including whether or not Aaron Rodgers was involved in the decision-making. He seemed to dispel these rumors, and it remains to be seen whether this move will have a positive or negative impact on the team’s performance. One thing is certain, however, and that is the Jets will be turning to a new play caller under their new interim HC Jeff Ulbrich. Ulbrich announced on Thursday that passing game coordinator Todd Downing would be taking over play-calling duties from Rodgers’ right-hand man Nathaniel Hackett. The last time we saw Downing call plays, he was calling a Titans offense that ranked 28th overall in points scored. If Downing is the answer to the Jets’ problems, the entire situation is much worse than any of us can imagine.

New Orleans New QB1 🥇

It was apparent that Derek Carr would likely miss time due to his oblique injury suffered in Monday night’s loss to the Chiefs, but it was not apparent who would be starting in his place when they take the field in Week 6. News broke on Wednesday that they will be turning to 5th round rookie Spencer Rattler. Rattler looked promising in the pre-season, but will have his work cut out for him given the state of the Saints’ offensive line. The fantasy fallout for Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed remains to be seen.

More Injuries Piling Up 🤕

The early theme of the 2024 season has been offensive stars getting injured, and that continued in Week 5. Nico Collins and Michael Pittman will both be missing time, with Collins hitting IR and Pittman being announced as missing “multiple weeks.” Houston has other pass catchers to rely on, whereas Indianapolis will be looking for someone to step up in Pittman’s absence. The obvious choice there is AD Mitchell, who has been fingertips away from multiple long touchdown catches this season. It sounds like Richardson will be back at the helm of the offense this week, which could present a very run-heavy approach from the Colts against the Titans.

Thursday Night Football Preview 🔮

NFL Week 6 gets underway tonight with our Seahawks vs 49ers preview. The game kicks off at 8:15 ET and is being broadcast exclusively on Prime Video. We have another divisional showdown this week, after the Bucs and Falcons combined for 66 points last Thursday night.

Seattle Seahawks 🏈

Seattle is coming off a terrible home loss to the wounded Giants, and now have to try and stop Kyle Shanahan on short rest without star CB Riq Woolen. They continue to operate one of the few pass-heavy offenses in the league but have struggled defensively to halt teams from sustaining drives against them. Tyrone Tracy was a big factor in keeping drives alive for the Giants last week, racking up over 100 yards. This could spell trouble against the 49ers run game. Whether or not Seattle can get stops on defense will be what I’m watching for tonight.

San Francisco 49ers 🏆

I think this sets up really well for the 49ers, who are also coming off a pretty bad loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Brock Purdy has been fantastic this season metrically and can definitely take advantage of this banged-up Seahawks defense. It’s a good spot for George Kittle—the Seahawks have allowed the 5th most receiving yards to opposing TEs this season. It’s also a good spot for Brandon Aiyuk, who finally got going last week, and now will get to pick on Riq Woolen’s backup. I’m fully expecting the 49ers to win this game and Brock Purdy having one of his best games of the season would go hand-in-hand along with that.
