2025 NFC Championship Prediction: Commanders vs Eagles Preview
NFL Conference Championship weekend is upon us and we finally will decide who meets in the Super Bowl. We will be previewing both games starting with the NFC Championship...let's dive in!
Washington Commanders @ Philadelphia Eagles
Conference championship weekend kicks-off with a divisional match-up between the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles. The home team is favored by 6.5 in this contest with a modest total set at 47.5 points. This will be the third time these teams have met this season, with the season series sitting at 1-1.
I don’t think anyone pegged the Washington Commanders for the NFC Championship game pre-season, but they find themselves here anyway. Jayden Daniels has accelerated their rebuild and is looking to become the first ever rookie QB to lead this team to the Super Bowl.
Philadelphia started the season slow, but have since turned it on. They won 10 games in a row from October 13th to December 15th and have won 14 out of their last 15 in total. Their defense ranks top of the league in most metrics including DVOA while they also come in second-overall in my NFL Power Rankings dataspace behind only the Buffalo Bills.
This game will come down to one huge factor in my opinion, the health of Jalen Hurts. Say what you want about him, he has done very well in terms of taking care of the ball this season and is undefeated at home in this play-off career (4-0). Washington is a good team, with a great QB, but I think their Cinderella run comes to an end on Sunday. This defense is average at best in my opinion, and eventually they’re going to fall victim to their own deficiencies. Detroit was limping into the play-offs health wise and was, by all accounts, a bottom-five defensive unit in the NFL over the last four to five weeks. Washington took advantage of that, something I don’t think they will be able to execute to that extent against Vic Fangio’s unit.
Score Prediction: Eagles 28, Commanders, 20
Touchdown Prediction: AJ Brown
This isn’t going to be the popular pick to find the end zone from the Eagles, but it’s time for AJ Brown to make his presence known. He’s pretty much been a ghost so far in these play-offs outside of a huge conversion on fourth down late in the game against the Rams last weekend. As noted above, Jalen Hurts health is a legitimate question heading into this game. That being said, Brown can take over at any moment as we’ve seen time and time again in his career. He’s always been a mismatch against this defense – averaging 93 yards per game against them in 6 career games with 6 touchdowns.
