NFL Week 8 Waiver Wire: Top Pickups & Must Adds

Welcome to our weekly waiver wire blog where we break down the most important fantasy football pickups heading into Week 8.

Tyler Allgeier

This one is for Yahoo only, as he seems to be rostered in under 40% of softer leagues there. Atlanta draws the nut match-up this week at home against the Dolphins making Allgeier a viable FLEX option in all leagues. Most 12 team leagues see him rostered, but if you’re in a league that he’s available in he would be priority pick-up number one heading into Week 8.

Kyle Monangai

I scooped Monangai in most of my leagues last week when it wasn’t clear whether or not that D’Andre Swift would be able to go vs the Saints – and I am keeping him rostered in all those leagues. We saw Luther Burden get a small post-bye bump in usage rate two weeks ago but Monangai has experienced the same. He saw his highest share of the team’s RB touches of the season (40%) in that game vs the Saints and was involved both early and late in the game. Ben Johnson has always called a run-heavy game plan and there’s room for Monangai to grow as the season goes along.

Tez Johnson

I’m becoming a big fan of Tez Johnson and it’s clear he has chemistry with Baker Mayfield after scoring a touchdown in his second straight game on Monday night. Emeka Egbuka is back now set to operate as the alpha in this offense – but we don’t have any clarity on Chris Godwin and Mike Evans is likely to be out for close to the rest of the regular season. Johnson’s skillset translates well to the current landscape of the NFL and he should be rostered in all leagues moving forward.

Jaylin Lane

This one is a bit more cloudy of a situation, but there is at least a chance that we don’t see one of or both Deebo Samuel and Terry McLaurin again on Monday night for the Commanders. Lane has the skillset to be the best WR on the Commanders when those two are out – and Mariota gave him 20% of his targets once he entered the game for Jayden Daniels on Sunday. This is probably better suited for deeper leagues, but is a situation worth monitoring.
