World Cup Predictions for 7/3/26
Yesterday was another great day, but I was dead wrong on the Algeria game. I thought they could at least find the back of the net once! We have three tough games today, and I’m a bit short on time so the previews will be condensed. Let’s dive in!
Egypt vs Australia
Score Prediction: Egypt 1, Australia 0
Egypt come into this game as slight favorites, but on paper these teams profile similarly. Egypt is known as a stout defense that is tough to break down and while they conceded a goal in every group stage match I think it would be tough for Australia to find the back of the bet here. They scored just twice in their three group stage matches and they lack real quality in the offensive third to take advantage of chances. The total for this match is just 1.5 and that’s telling of the likely defensive battle we will see. Egypt has a bit more quality, and I expect that to be the difference in a tight game.

Argentina vs Cape Verde
Score Prediction: Argentina 3, Cape Verde 0
It’s absolutely insane that Cape Verde find themselves in this match, against the defending world champions. This has been the most fun story of the summer in my opinion, but I think their Cinderella run is finally coming to an end tonight. I don’t think Cape Verde is bad, or even got here on flukiness. They played masterfully against Spain and Uruguay but they are going to have to play a bit more open in a do or die game and that’s where the quality of this Argentinian side led by Lionel Messi can really hurt them. Messi is entrenched in a legendary golden boot race against Kylian Mbappe that very well might end with them meeting in the final again so it’s tough to expect anything other than another stellar performance tonight. I have this as a 3-0 game, but given the heart of this Cape Verde squad I would not be shocked to see them find the back of the bet one last time as a parting gift to their country and you can get 2/1 or over on both teams to score.
Colombia vs Ghana
Score Prediction: Colombia 3, Ghana 1
We end the night with my most conviction on the slate, and that’s Colombia advancing. I hit Colombia on the moneyline as soon as this game was posted at -120 odds and it has since steamed to -240. Colombia is the fourth or fifth best team in this tournament in my opinion after France, Spain and Argentina and I would love to see a Colombia vs Argentina quarter-final match-up. I was pretty low on this Ghana side coming into the tournament, but they’ve done extremely well just getting out of their group. Unfortunately, I think there is some smoke and mirrors there as they have the second-lowest xG of any team still alive behind only Paraguay. Ghana does not have the same defensive prowess as Paraguay so it’s tough to assume they can frustrate the quality of this Colombian team for 90 minutes. Colombia is going to see a ton of the ball tonight, and it just comes down to finishing ability. I love Luis Diaz to find the back of the net here en route to a Colombian win in regulation.
